Metal shares fall
Metal stocks were trading in the negative zone, with the S&P BSE Metal index falling 479.09 points or 6.85% at 6519.41 at 13:53 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 9.88%), JSW Steel Ltd (down 8.89%),Tata Steel Ltd (down 8.22%),Vedanta Ltd (down 8.11%),Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 6.92%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 5.26%), Coal India Ltd (down 5.24%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 3.61%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 1.8%), and NMDC Ltd (down 0.99%).
At 13:53 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 2002.85 or 5.87% at 32100.63.
The Nifty 50 index was down 570.4 points or 5.73% at 9384.8.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 547.6 points or 4.66% at 11213.62.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 203 points or 4.89% at 3944.99.
On BSE,465 shares were trading in green, 1848 were trading in red and 156 were unchanged.
