Telecom shares fall sharply

Telecom stocks were trading in the negative zone, with the S&P BSE Telecom index falling 1.96 points or 0.2% at 979.69 at 13:47 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Optiemus Infracom Ltd (down 4.9%), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (down 4.7%),Reliance Communications Ltd (down 3.8%),GTL Infrastructure Ltd (down 3.51%),Tejas Networks Ltd (down 3.36%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (down 2.88%), Vodafone Idea Ltd (down 2.43%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd (down 0.31%), and Bharti Airtel Ltd (down 0.08%).
On the other hand, OnMobile Global Ltd (up 1.54%), Bharti Infratel Ltd (up 0.35%), and Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd (up 0.29%) moved up.
At 13:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 124.11 or 0.33% at 38004.51.
The Nifty 50 index was up 31.3 points or 0.28% at 11265.85.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 10.98 points or 0.25% at 4319.12.
On BSE,1010 shares were trading in green, 1279 were trading in red and 162 were unchanged.
