Congress would concentrate on confidence building measures while designing the policy to counter the Left radical group if it forms the government in Chhattisgarh.

“For the solution to the Naxal problem, the government policy will be based on building confidence,” All India Congress Committee Treasurer Motilal Vora said while releasing party’s election manifesto for the assembly election due this year. The priority of the government would be to establish confidence in the tribal pockets, he added.

The Congress however remains confuse on the issue of dealing with the Naxalites with iron hand. “There is always scope for negotiation,” Vora said hinting that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh could even consider sitting with the Naxalites for parley even after its top leaders were killed by rebels in Darba ghats on May 25.

The AICC Treasurer said the government would treat with the Naxalites in a sympathetic way if they approached to join the main stream of the society.

Experts on the issue said that the Congress party was playing safe on the issue of Naxalism. “Congress does not want to indulge in any controversy especially when its focus is on Bastar to bag maximum seats,” said one of them.

The Congress party had announced in the election manifesto that it would give importance to the suggestion of gram sabha in designing the development projects in the red zone.

A time bound postings of government employees in the Naxal-infested areas would be on card of Congress government. “After a specified period, the employee would be transferred to the place he wished,” the election manifesto added.
