Six persons were killed and eight injured in a fire that gutted several hutments in Mahim, a suburb in Mumbai on Thursday evening.

The fire broke out in Mahim's Nayanagar slum early, fire brigade sources said, adding that the cause of the fire was not yet known.

Six persons were killed and eight injured in a fire that gutted several hutments here today.

Eight fire engines and two ambulances were rushed to the spot, they said.

"A major fire broke out at a residential chawl on Shitladevi Temple Road in Mahim at around 7:30 pm. Eight fire engines and five water tankers have been rushed to the spot," fire brigade officials said.
