Bandh call in Dhubri over stabbing incident

Official sources said the decorator, Kamal Ghosh, was injured when miscreants stabbed him at the Ghoshpara puja mandap in the town's IG Road area.

The injured decorator was first admitted to a local hospital and referred to the Guwahati Medical College this morning.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri Sarvajanik Durga Puja Sammanway Samiti, the coordination committee of 76 puja committees in Dhubri town, organised a meeting this morning to protest the incident and asked senior officials to meet them at the protest site.

The crowd got agitated as the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri district did not come to meet the protesters. Soon a huge crowd started shouting slogans against the administration and a minor scuffle started with the police.

 

Police resorted to a lathicharge and dispersed the crowd. Within an hour, the Dhubri Sarvajanik Durga Puja Sammanway Samiti called for a bandh in the town.

The Samiti members have demanded action against culprits responsible for the stabbing incident and said the Durga Puja idols would not be immersed till administration take action in this regard.
