Bengal brigade caves in at Rose Valley chess

On top board in the fourth round, 17th seed Marat caused an upset by beating second seed Anton Korobov of Ukraine.
Super Grandmaster Korobov, who won in 2002 and in this year's Ukrainian Championships, was considered one of the title contenders.
Marat turned it around with a deficit of pawn and a bishop in the mid-game. IM Vidit Santosh Gujrathi and GM Mikhailo Oleksienko of Ukraine were jointly in the second position with 3.5 points each.
Vidit, who recently emerged champion at the Premier National Chess tournament held here, beat compatriot, IM Narayanan Srinath (2439), and Oleksienko moved to the second position with a hard-fought win over Indian GM Deepan Chakkravarthy.
Top seed GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek again lost a valuable half point after he was forced to share a point by Indian GM MR Venkatesh.
Thirteen players, along with Radoslaw Wojtaszek, GM Suryasekhar Ganguly, GM Abhijit Gupta, GM Ni Hua of China were jointly in third position with three points each.
After two wins in last two rounds, Ganguly had to be content with just half a point against his compatriot GM Vaibhav Suri after 35 moves.
