Bike rallies in campaigns should have police permission: SEC

West Bengal state election commission today issued orders that use of more than one motorcycle in any panchayat poll campaign would require special police permission.

"The commission has made it mandatory for all contesting political parties to take special permission from the police in case of taking out more than one motorcycle during panchayat poll campaign," commission secretary Tapas Roy told PTI here.

Roy said the commission had already received a spate of complaints from political parties about motorcycle processions in the districts.

CPI(M) and Congress have already lodged complaints with the commission about bike processions by ruling Trinamool Congress for which, they alleged, no police permission was taken.
