Joint director of Horticulture Watiyienla Jamir said that from a mere Rs 1 lakh venture, Nagaland was now earning not less than Rs 10 crore from floriculture.
She was addressing the flower growers at a flower arrangement competition, organised by Eastern Creatives, Kohima at Department of Under Developed Area (DUDA) guest house here yesterday.
She said the department started promoting floriculture only in four districts but now spread to other districts.
She pointed out that the flower business depends on the demands of the market and season.
She encouraged participants from Eastern Nagaland on marketing leaves and foliages from their region, informing that the department can arrange training and exposure trips if the women are interested.
She said the department was providing green houses to any self-help group or women group who had 200 square metre of land and so far 722 green houses had been provided to the growers but only 422 were reported to be properly maintained.
