BJP leader and local MP Hema Malini today demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for kin of farmers who have lost their lives due to recent untimely rains and hailstorms in the state.

"Every bereaved family in which either a farmer has committed suicide or killed in the hailstorm or died due to shock of heavy damage should be compensated at Rs 10 lakh per family," she said at a press conference here.

In order to mitigate the crop damages, she demanded the compensation at the rate of Rs 25,000 per hectare to farmers, writing off loans, rebate in power bills, and suspension of One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for sometimes.

"I would take a delegation of farmers to Union Finance Minister to chart out some long term plan on such natural disasters," the actor-turned politician said.

Besides, she would also meet Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and Union Agriculture Minister to apprise them of the situation.

She said that survey report of the loss should be prepared soon.

"The officers should themselves go for survey instead of leaving the work on junior staff," she added.
