"The state's population of over three million, including those from low and middle income groups, will benefit from the scheme," IFC vice-president for Asia Pacific Karin Finkelston said after signing an MoU with Meghalaya government in Shillong today.

"IFC will jointly work with World Bank in implementing the insurance scheme which will help the families to obtain quality healthcare," an IFC press release said here.

To be implemented in two phases, the project will first extend insurance coverage to more than 80 per cent of the residents while the second phase will aim for a broader coverage of diseases and tertiary healthcare delivery.

"By introducing an efficient and independent mechanism, the project will promote private sector participation in offering healthcare to the insured," Finkelston said. PTI SB AMD
