The Maharashtra government today signed an agreement with the US-based World Resource Institute (WRI), that will suggest ways to prevent road accidents.

State Transport minister Diwakar Raote said the institute will study the causes of road accidents in the state and suggest ways to prevent them free of cost.

"In view of the rising number of road accidents, a road safety committee has been formed in accordance with guidelines of supreme court.

"According to the suggestions of this committee, to study road accidents and come up with safety measures, we had to take help of this organisation. Thus, this MoU has been signed," he added.

Raote said WRI will collaborate with other state-based organisations and give its suggestions.

A two-day training session of Transport department officials will be held by WRI.
