A new born baby which went missing from the maternity ward of Government Rajaji Hospital here on June 15, 2013, had been traced, Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department(CB-CID) today told the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

Making the submission during the hearing of a habeas corpus petition by the mother of the baby, CB-CID said the child will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate for a DNA test and sought time to file the DNA report.

Following this, Justice A.Selvam and Justice T.Mathivanan adjourned the matter to Feb 20 to enable the CB-CID file its final report.

The court had in October last year transferred the case to CB-CID noting that the city police could not trace the baby even 16 months after it was lifted from the hospital.

In her petition, filed in July last year, T Meenakshi (20) contended that child lifters were on the prowl in almost all government hospitals in the state.

Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan informed the court that 353 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras had been installed in government hospitals across the State to prevent such incidents. He also said that steps were afoot to appoint security personnel.
