SDMC mayor announces solatium for family of boy who drowned in septic tank

South Delhi Mayor Subhash Arya today announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the parents of a boy who drowned in a septic tank of a municipal corporation- run school in south west Delhi's Kapashera area.

"I have announced a compensation for Ankit's parents from my relief fund and it will provided to them in a couple of days," Arya said.

Five-year-old nursery student Ankit died after falling into an open septic tank while playing with his friends on January 27.

Police had registered a case of negligence in this connection and school staff and the parents of the victim boy were questioned. SDMC authorities also ordered a probe into the incident by the civic body's Additional Commissioner (education), Rajesh Pathak.
 

Principal of the school Rekha Kakkar was suspended after a preliminary inquiry by the civic body and arrested on February 2.
