Two Bangladeshi nationals were today arrested for allegedly trying to procure passports by submitting fake documents, police said.
"Khalid Hussain and Sagar Khan hailing from Chand Pur and Bagerhat districts of Bangladesh had applied for passport with fake Voter ID and Aadhaar card," SP City Salman Taj Patil said.
The duo visited the local intelligence unit (LIU) office to know the status of police verification of their documents.
After going through the documents, officers of LIU found that they were forged and detained them following which they were handed over to Sihani Gate police station, the SP said.
Patil said police are probing the case and trying to ascertain who helped the accused in obtaining fake documents.
Legal action will be initiated against all errant policemen and other persons involved in the racket, he said.
An FIR has been registered against the accused.
