Demanding removal of a liquor shop, residents of a village today staged to a novel agitation by arranging a "mock wedding" of two young men to drive home the point that unless the outlet was closed no bribes would prefer the local youth.

The protestors of Thippanampatti put up a 'pandal' wherein the 'wedding ceremony' was held in which a youth tied the "mangalsutra" to another youth, to drive home the point that men in the village would not be able to find brides unless the liquor shop was shut.

They alleged that no one was willing to marry men from their village as they had picked up the drinking habit.

The locals charged that despite repeated pleas, the liquor shop was not closed.

The outlet was attracting huge crowds affecting peace in the village, they alleged.
