An amount of Rs 20 crore will be spent to provide Wi-Fi facilities in six universities, 46 government colleges and 23 non-government ones in Odisha in the first phase of a smart campus scheme here.

With this, educational institutions would have smart classrooms, e-library and communication-cum-language laboratories from the next academic year, said the state's higher Education Minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi, who was here to attend a function.

Later, the facility would be extended to more colleges and varsities, he said.

Officers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, which would execute the project, have started survey in state-run institutions.

"Funds will be released after BSNL submits a detailed project report," said Secretary (higher education) Gagan Kumar Dhal, who was also present.
