A woman died of 'shock' when she was trying to flee as violence broke out in the vicinity of the Allahabad High Court where advocates staging a roadblock clashed with a group of students, a police spokesman said.

Around ten persons were injured in the violence.

Trouble began around noon when the lawyers blocked traffic on the busy Allahabad-Kanpur road in protest against the alleged assault on some lawyers two days ago, said Mritunjay Mishra, media cell in-charge of the district police.

Mishra said the advocates alleged that some Samajwadi Party leaders were behind the assault and demanded their immediate arrest.

As the lawyers' protest was on, a group of Allahabad University students took out a rally canvassing for the upcoming students' union election.

The students asked the protesting lawyers to clear the road for their procession which the latter refused. This led to a clash with both sides engaging in stone-pelting.

At least 10 persons including policemen were injured and a number of vehicles was damaged during the clash, the police spokesman said.

The spokesman said it is suspected that the woman, a fruit-seller, died of shock as she tried to flee the spot. There was no injury mark on her body, he added.

The High court bar association has called a strike tomorrow in protest against the violence.
