Abortive Bid To Blow Up Srinagar Dd Station

MILITANTS MADE an abortive attempt to blow up Srinagar Doordarshan station by firing three rifle grenades at the building this afternoon, official sources said.
One of the grenades, which were fired from a projectile gun, hit a mighty chinar on the main gate of the station, another fell in a car parking area and the third near a studio close to the news room, the sources said.
No one was injured in the attack, sources said, adding the grenades exploded with a loud bang rattling doors and windows of the Doordarshan building. Security personnel deployed at the DD station fired in retaliation but there were no casualties, sources said.

Doordarshan and nearby Srinagar station of All India Radio have been the main targets of militants ever since militancy erupted in Kashmir in 1989-90. Several attempts have been made to blow up the buildings and disrupt transmission. A station engineer of Doordarshan was killed in one of these attacks.
In Jammu, one Pak infiltrator was killed by the troops while trying to sneak into the Indian side in Khari Karmara area.
