Big B'S World

BSCAL

The Big B will not have to wait very long to find out. Bangalore-based women's organisations such as the Mahila Jagran, and the anti-KFC farmers' lobby, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) have already threatened to form suicide squads and resort to "direct action" to save Indian culture.

This has not stopped Bachchan, who was in Bangalore recently, from being upbeat while detailing plans for the three-hour extravaganza slated to take place on November 23. He drolly fended off questions on Bangalore's woeful lack of infrastructure saying, "Bangalore does not lack in anything Sun City had."

It has been a coup of sorts for Bachchan to bag this contract from the Miss World organisers. He is now hoping to host

the show for the next two years. Earlier these pageants were held in UK, Hong Kong and South Africa.

Bachchan refused to divulge the amount of money being pumped in to make this event a spectacle. Over 2 billion viewers are likely to watch the live telecast.

This 47-year-old glittering pageant has, over the years, raised in excess of $150 million for charity. ABCL has won the television and marketing rights for this pageant. "We hope to entice as many sponsors as possible," Bachchan cooed.

The money may be rolling in but the once-invincible celluloid hero has surely underestimated the opposition! The KRRS chief M D Nanjundaswamy is no paper tiger and more formidable than a Gabbar Singh.
