Bjp Could Win 38 Seats In Mp, Says Uma Bharti

BSCAL

The Bharatiya Janata Party could win between 35 to 38 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh in the coming elections, senior BJP leader Uma Bharti said here yesterday.

The current atmosphere in Madhya Pradesh was highly favourable for the BJP and similar to the one in 1977 and 1989, Bharti said here yesterday.

She said unlike some Lok Sabha elections in the past, which were fought on emotional issues, the next one would be contested on the plank of stability.

The people, Bharti said, were tired of coalition governments, which had failed to deliver the goods after the 1996 Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Nand Kumar Sai claimed yesterday that some state Congress leaders were in constant touch with the party with the intention of joining it.

Some Congress leaders from Madhya Pradesh might follow Dilip Singh Bhuria and Aslam Sher Khan in joining the party, he said. However, Sai refused to disclose the names of these leaders. Asked if the party would issue tickets to Bhuria and Khan for the Lok Sabha elections, Sai said the two had come to the party unconditionally.

Mr Sai said the partys state unit would assess candidates in all the 40 parliamentary constituencies of madhya pradesh and then make recommendations to the party high command.
