Castor Oil Grades Slide, Gold Prices Edge Up

Groundnut oil held steady at Rs 400 per 10 kg on moderate offtake. Arrivals of imported goods were brisk and the trading volume was thin. Out-of-state orders were subdued. Imported soya oil refined also stayed quiet at Rs 236 per 10 kg.
Castorseeds September contract opened Rs 3 lower at Rs 1,524 a quintal. It then dipped to Rs 1,515 before closing at Rs 1,517 a quintal.

December contract opened Rs 26 lower at Rs 1,395 a quintal. It and was dealt between Rs 1,410 and Rs 1,385 before closing at Rs 1,390. Castor oil international August contract was untraded yesterday. October contract opened steady at Rs 352 per 10 kg and ruled steady.
Nigerseeds and castorseeds dropped by Rs 25 and Rs 15 to Rs 2,200 and Rs 1,550 a quintal, respectively, on sluggish offtake against easy arrivals from producing centres.
Sugar: A mixed trend was witnessed yesterday with small-grade steady and medium-grade ruling easy. Consumer demand was subdued.
Small-grade sugar (S-30) held steady at Rs 1,518/1,545 a quintal on dull consumer demand against easy inflows. Medium-grade (M-30) eased to Rs 1,545/1,570 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,545/1,570.
Sugar prices for check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,495/1,520 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,520/1,540 for medium grade.
Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend was noticed yesterday. The demand was modest against a normal supply position.
In scraps, brass sheetcuttings looked up by 50 paise at Rs 102 a kg on modest offtake. Others ruled steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper heavy scraps Rs 122.50, copper utensils Rs 103, brass utensils Rs 91.50, and aluminium utensils Rs 74 a kg, respectively.
In virgins, copper wire bar eased by 50 paise at Rs 140.50 a kg on dull industrial demand. Others were quiet yesterday with aluminium ingots quoted at Rs 93, zinc slabs at Rs 89, lead ingots at Rs 36, tin slabs at Rs 368 and nickel cathodes at Rs 514 a kg.
Bullion: A mixed trend was witnessed in precious metals yesterday. Silver grades ruled mixed while gold remained firm.
Silver .999 held steady at Rs 8,040 a kg while silver .916 eased by Rs 20 at Rs 7,900 a kg on dull upcountry advices coupled with dull industrial demand. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.
Standard gold and 22-carat gold firmed up further by Rs 5 each to Rs 4,520 and Rs 4,180 per 10 gram, respectively, on better overseas advices and normal local offtake. Gold biscuits gained Rs 50 at Rs 52,900 per piece.
