Eastern Rly Sees 10% Rise In Ticket Sale

BSCAL

Eastern railway has registered a record 10.41 per cent increase in the sale of tickets in the first 10 months of 1999-2000. It sold five crore more tickets from April-to-January against the sale in the previous corresponding period.

Railway officials attributed this to the success of the drive against ticketless travelling.

Altogether 53 crore tickets were sold this year against 48 crore tickets the previous year. This resulted in an additional earning of Rs 73 crore or nearly Rs 15 for each additional ticket.

The total earning from passenger traffic for the Eastern Railway during the period this year was Rs 742 crore against Rs 669 crore in the same period last year.
