European Aluminium Output Up 4% In Q3

BSCAL

European production of primary aluminium rose to 848,984 tonne in the third quarter of 1997, up from 816,087 tonne in the same period a year earlier, the European Aluminium Association (EAA) said on Wednesday.

This four per cent year-on-year jump was bigger than the 2.5 per cent rise recorded in the second quarter of 1997 when output totalled 827,726 tonne.

A breakdown of the EAA figures showed a sharp jump in Norwegian output in the third quarter. It was up at 233,577 tonne as against 225,181 tonne.

The EEA gave a cumulative total for the year up to and including the third quarter of 2,486,329 tonne, little changed from 1996's 2,432,333 tonne.

In the whole of 1996, primary aluminium production among EEA members was 3,253,285 tonne.

The figures cover production in France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Britain.
