Fund For Exploration Of Minerals In Ne Mooted

The task force on exploration and development of minerals in the north-east has recommended the creation of a special fund by the Union government and profit-making public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the sector for speedy development of identified deposits in the region.
The task force, in its report to the minister of steel and mines, Birendra Prasad Baishya, has proposed that the North-Eastern Mineral Development Fund (NEMDF) would also be used for construction of link road from mines to factory sites and from factory sites to the nearest highway. It would finance feasibility studies, preparation of environmental base line data for setting up mineral-based industries and training of personnel engaged in the mineral sector in the region.
