Furious Debate Rages Over Grid Collapse Of July 25

Power engineers of various agencies are refusing to buy the PGCL argument that none of the 1071 mw export outside the region could be disconnected to save the eastern region grid. They say the timely intervention could have saved the grid collapse and necessary guidelines should be issued for future.

In its report on the grid failure, the PGCL has explained why it did not curtail any of the supplies outside the region. According to its records, 126 mw was flowing to the North Eastern region, about 350 mw to the Western region, 400 mw to the Southern region through the Gazuwaka HVDC link, another 145 mw to the Southern region through the Balimela-Upper Sileru link, and, 50 mw to the Northern region.
