Goa Offers Golden Handshake To Govt Employees

CHIEF MINISTER Francisco Sardinha, who is heading a cash-strapped economy, has come out with a bold scheme of voluntary retirement for the Government employees having five years or less than it for superannuation and, that too, with a golden handshake.
Mr Sardinha stated that the measure had been taken by his Cabinet to downsize the administrative manpower for the purpose of effecting economy in the light of the severe resource crunch being faced by the State exchequer.
Another decision taken by the Cabinet was to ban grant of extension of service to government officials after superannuation. If the services of any expert are required then such a person would be employed on contract basis, Mr Sardinha said.
The Chief Minister stated that the annual budget which he would present to the Assembly next week, would be "a budget of the people''.
