Govt Nod For Commissioning Radisson Hotel

The government today gave green signal for commissioning American chain Radisson hotel near Delhi airport, setting at rest the inter ministerial differences over the foreign investment project.
Official sources said the Rs 90 crore hotel, which was readied last year, could not be operationalised because of differences between the Delhi Development Authority and urban affairs ministry on the use of land leased out by the Airport Authority of India to the hotel.
Reacting to reports that the prime ministers office had given the nod, the sources said it was cleared by the cabinet which felt the foreign investor could not be faulted for a dispute between two government departments.
The sources said the cabinet felt it would have an adverse impact on foreign investment in other sectors like power and roads if there was further delay in its operationalisation for no fault of the investor. The dispute was mainly over necessary parking space not being made available by the hotel. Radisson had constructed the hotel near Indira Gandhi international airport after bidding through an open tender. AAI has leased 23000 square metre for 30 years. The hotel, adjacent to national highway number eight, had come up in the wake of growing demand from transit passengers.
