Gvk Ind Plans 100mw Power Plant In Ratlam

BSCAL

This is in addition to the coal-based 500 mw power project which it is setting up in Krishnapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,750 crore.

The Andhra Pradesh plant would be completed after four years although the erection, procurement and construction bids are yet to be finalised. Wartsila Diesel has successfully bid for the EPC contract at the Ratlam plant. As the Ratlam plant is fuel-based, its completion can be expected within the year.

K Badri, company secretary, said, GVK Industries would easily cross the Rs 100 crore mark in 1996-97 without full commissioning of all its on-going projects and cross Rs 300 crore by June 1997.

The funding of both the Madhya Pradesh and the Andhra Pradesh plants would be through institutional loans.

The per mw cost of fuel production using either diesel, residual or the thermal route is the same.

Residual fuel prices are administered and stand at Rs 7,800 per tonne as against the Rs 4,200 per tonne international prices though the industry anticipates a fall in the administered prices making fuel-based power generation more economical. 100 mw is a convenient range for power plants with its inherent ability to fit in at the load centres.
