Jayanti Patnaik To Contest Berhampur

Jayanti Patnaik, wife of Orissa chief minister J B Patnaik, will contest as the Congress candidate from the prestigious Berhampur seat, from where former Prime Minister and sitting member of parliament P V Narasimha Rao has been denied a ticket this time. Chief minister Patnaik said the party has also decided to field Mustafiz Ahmed, a former Janata Dal minister who joined the Congress a fortnight ago, from the Cuttack seat. Ahmed had lost to BJP leader Samir Dey in the last assembly elections in the state.

Senior party leaders from the state expressed confidence that the party would bag 19 out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
