Lakhani To Forge Brand Pact With Walt Disney

As per the terms stipulated, Lakhani would be using various Walt Disney cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy, among others, on the childrens range of shoes. The shoes would have any of these Disney characters inscribed on them.

Lakhani would have to pay a royalty to the American entertainment giant for a term of three years. According to the contract, Lakhani would reserve the rights to use the Walt Disney characters on its footwear products in India.

Lakhani is also finalising another agreement with US-based sports shoe major New Balance for a manufacturing and marketing collaboration in sport shoes. New Balance, which is the fourth largest shoe company worldwide after Nike, Reebok and Adidas, would supply technology to Lakhani. The alliance would also include a buyback arrangement, according to which, the American company would pick up more than 50 per cent of the production for exports.

 

The New Balance shoes, to be manufactured and marketed in India by Lakhani, would be priced in the range of Rs 900 to Rs 2,500. Lakhani has its own chain of twelve exclusive retail outlets in the country and plans to open over 500 such units by the end of this year.

The New Balance shoes would also be marketed by Lakhanis own retail network.At present, two high profile international footwear companies, Reebok and Adidas, source their sports shoe range from Lakhani.
