Mitsubishi To Unveil 2000cc Diesel Car In Two Years

Mitsubishi Motors Corp said yesterday it will introduce a 2,000cc diesel-powered compact car at the Hindustan Motors (HM) plant in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu by 2000. The new production is in addition to Mitsubishi's planned 1.5-litre Lancer model being produced at the HM plant. Mitsubishi Motors is scheduled to start assembly in 1998. The plant has a production capacity of 24,000 cars per year, said the Mitsubishi spokesman in Tokyo.

Mitsubishi, in September 1995, had said HM would initially make the Lancer petrol model and later the diesel model in the middle of 1997 under Mitsubishi's technical supervision.
