Peru Keen To Increase In Exports From India

BSCAL

Peru has expressed the desire to increase exports from India, especially in software and textiles, the Indian ambassador to Peru, Nirupama Rao, has said. Peru sees itself as a gateway to Latin American countries for the Asia-Pacific region and, therefore, it would like to see an improvement in trade to that country, especially from the Asian sub-continent, Rao said.

She was addressing the meeting of export promotion councils and commodity boards called by the union ministry of commerce at Pragati Maidan yesterday. Stating that the Latin American countries knew little about India, she said Indias exports to Peru had increased significantly to $55 million in 1996-97 and rice comprised a large proportion of the exports.
