Pivotals Pricier On Fii Buying

The trading sentiment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) firmed up yesterday with the 50-share NSE index gaining 13.15 points from its previous close of 963.45 points.
The Nifty opened at 963.45, touched a high of 978.05, dipped to a low of 962.25, before closing at 976.60.

The Midcap index closed at 1,112.90, a gain of 6.60 points. While there has been a fair amount of foreign buying, it was the operators who pushed up the stock prices. The total traded turnover on the exchange touched Rs 1,193.95 crore with over 4.06 crore shares changing hands.
The ITC scrip dominated the trading turnover and it closed at Rs 571.75 over its previous close of Rs 560.70, a gain of 1.97 per cent. The scrip clocked a trading turnover of Rs 391.58 crore. This was followed by Tata Tea which registered a trading turnover of Rs 220.16. The scrip made a handsome gain of 3 per cent.
Among the major gainers were Gujarat Ambuja which closed at Rs 233.70 (Rs 219.45), a gain of 6.49 per cent. The Hindalco scrip, which was constantly touching the 52-week low during the past few trading sessions, made smart recovery and it closed at Rs 628.80 (Rs 598.15). The Glaxo scrip also witnessed hectic activity and the scrip closed at Rs 358.35, over its previous close of Rs 344.15.
The EIH Hotel scrip came in for some heavy selling and the scrip closed at Rs 350 over its previous close of Rs 363.25, a loss of 3.65 per cent.
Among the other major losers were, Ashok Leyland which closed at Rs 34.60 (Rs 35.50), a loss of 2.54 per cent. The Telco scrip also came in for some selling and the scrip closed at Rs 232.30 (Rs 237).
The other leading scrips among the top 25 traded securities were MTNL (Rs 34.49 cr), HLL (Rs 32.87cr), Telco (Rs 29.38 cr), ACC (Rs 25.59 cr), HDFC (Rs 18.29 cr), LML (Rs 16.13 cr), Bajaj Auto (Rs 15.04 cr), Corp Bank (Rs 13.28 cr), Tisco (Rs 12.41 cr), L&T (Rs 11.28 cr), Ranbaxy (Rs 10.82 cr), Bhel (Rs 10.14 cr), NIIT (Rs 5.64 cr), BSES (Rs 5.55 cr), ICICI (Rs 4.57 cr), Inger Rand (Rs 3.91 cr), Punjab Trac (Rs 3.66 cr) and IPCL (Rs 2.55 cr).
