Power Output In January Up At 37.6 B Kwh

The country generated 37.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity during January 1998, up 7.7 per cent from January 1997, the government said in a statement yesterday.
The overall electricity generation during January 1998 was 37.6 billion units. This was the highest generation recorded during any single month in 1997-98 and was 7.7 per cent more than the generation during January 1997, the statement said. (One unit equals one kilowatt-hour.)
The statement said January was the first month in the financial year 1997-98 (April-March) when actual generation exceeded the target. The plant load factor, or the efficiency of thermal stations, increased to 69.8 per cent in January this year from 66.5 per cent in December 1997, it said.
