Ring Rail To Be Ready In A Year

The ring rail in the capital will start operating in a year's time, said railway board chairman C L Kaw.
The decision to optimise the use of the suburban railway tracks was taken at a meeting here yesterday.
It was attended by urban development secretary N P Singh, national capital region planning board member secretary Omesh Saigal, Delhi chief secretary P V Jaykrishnan, Haryana chief secretary M C Gupta, Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Mata Prasad and Rajasthan additional chief secretary Arun Kumar. It was chaired by Kaw.
The meeting endorsed the plans of the railway board to built train terminals at Noida, Holambi Kalan and Shakur Basti.
Once the stations are ready, it will help to ease the burden on New Delhi and Delhi railway stations.

Sources said the entire project cost of Rs 3,000 crore will be spent over three stages.
In the first stage, the ring rail will be activated in a year's time.
In the second stage, steps will be taken to improve the services and meet the traffic requirements to and from the satellite towns and Delhi. Laying of track between Sarai Kale Khan and Azadpur will be completed.
In the final stage, the rail service would be extended to Delhi metropolitan area towns.
Sources said the idea was to provide quality service between satellite and Delhi metropolitan towns and the capital to prevent migration to the capital from the neighbouring areas. It is estimated that nearly 72 per cent of migrants are from the national capital region.
