Sail To Extend Assistance To Iranian Firms

BSCAL

Steel Authority of India has offered to assist Iranian steel companies in expanding its existing capacities and setting up new facilities.

The company has also bagged orders to export steel products valued at over Rs 18 crore to Iran.

Structurals rebars, electrical steels and stainless steels were among the items to have figured in commercial discussions between SAIL representatives and the various delegations during the 22nd Tehran International Trade Fair, where SAIL had put up a stall. The fair opened on October 2 and ended yesterday.

The defence ministry, government of Iran, has asked SAIL to supply 13,000 tonnes of re-bars. Discussions are on with the industry ministry to supply 3,000 tonnes of billets.

The Sugarcane Development Corporation of Tehran has asked SAIL to submit rates for 11,500 tonnes of structurals and 815 tonnes of stainless steel. Jimarat Niroo, a major power plant equipment manufacturer, has evinced interest to procure 5,000 tonnes of various grades of mild steel and electrical steels.

The decision to tap the Iranian market has been part of its strategy to export 10 per cent of its ouput. The Indian ambassador to Iran Siddharth Singh said steel has emerged as a priority sector among the several areas of co-operation between India and Iran.
