Share Prices Gain Marginally On Lacklustre Trading

Pivotals closed on a steadier note in lacklustre trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) here yesterday due to profittaking at higher levels coupled with heavy selling pressure in Reliance scrip.

Operators also squared up positions on the last day of the current settlement at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The NSE-50 index opened barely steady at 1168.30, dipped to a low of 1165.95 but rose to a high of 1174.75 on shortcovering and closed at 1169.65, showing a gain of 1.45 from the previous close of 1168.20.

The Midcap opened at 1168.50 and after touching a high of 1171.05 closed at 1159.40, showing a loss of 9.60 from the previous close of 1169.

 

The volume of business was Rs 1753.79 crore from 592.45 lakh shares and in 1,56,234 trades. The total traded value of debentures was Rs 114.30 lakh.

The top 25 traded securities were ITC (Rs 536.17 crs), Reliance (532.46 crs), State Bank of India (Rs 124.79 cr), Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co (Rs 109.73 crs), ACC (Rs 88.96 crs), Tata Iron & Steel Co (Rs 57.46 crs), Larsen & Toubro (Rs 33.44 crs), Tata Tea (Rs 28.44 crs), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (Rs 18.15 crs), Bank of India (Rs 18.11 crs), Hind Lever (Rs 15.93 crs), Bajaj Auto (Rs 11.60 crs), HDFC (Rs 11.25 crs), Tata Power (Rs 10.09 crs) Guj Ambuja (Rs 8.52 crs), Hind Petroleum (Rs 7.79 crs), Bhel (Rs 7.60 crs), Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (Rs 6.94 crs), Bses (Rs 6.67 crs), OBC (Rs 5.43 crs), Lakme (Rs 4.68 crs), Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd (Rs 4.16 crs), Icici (Rs 4.07 crs), Ongc (Rs 3.98 crs) and Gas Authority (Rs 3.67 crs).

The top five gainers were GE Ship, Guj Ambuja, Essar Stl, ACC Ltd and ITC Ltd while the top five losers were Reliance Petro, Reliance Cap, EIH Ltd, Tata Power and Andh Valley Power
