Sony Sales Seen At Rs 400 Cr In 7-98

BSCAL

Sony India has projected a sales turnover of Rs 400 crore for the current financial year compared with Rs 345 crore in 1996-97. The figure could go up to Rs 500 crore by 1998-99, said Sony managing director Yoshio Kubo. Sony India had identified initial three years of operations in the country as the development stage to strengthen infrastructure in manufacturing and distribution of consumer electronics. "We will now work towards market penetration which would take us to market leadership position," he said while introducing new models of televisions, audio systems and Handycam video cameras. Kubo said Sony India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the $47-billion Sony Corporation of Japan, was now teaming up with 70 local vendors to increase the level of indigenisation.
