Trials Of Selective Gm Crops To Be Allowed

Information is available on many crops but, any trial requires the assessment of risks from the available information, minister of state for science and technology Bachi Singh Rawat told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply, adding that no field trial was authorised before the information was evaluated.
No GM crop has been introduced in the country so far. The government would permit such crops to be introduced only after it was satisfied with its biosafety and agronomic advantage, the minister said.
