Unocal Corp has agreed to pay more than $7 million in penalties and environmental improvements to settle a federal lawsuit over air pollution violations at its ammonia and urea fertiliser plant in Kenai, Alaska, federal officials said. The deal resolves a lawsuit filed in October by the US justice department. The lawsuit alleged that Unocal violated Alaskas federally approved state standards by releasing air pollutants in concentrations above limits allowed by the plants Clean Air Act.
