AAP will perform poorly in MP polls just as it did in Gujarat: Vijayvargiya

The Aam Aadmi Party will face a repeat of its Gujarat electoral performance in Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are due by the year-end, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has claimed. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, which now governs Delhi and Punjab, has declared that it would contest in all 230 constituencies across MP. In the run-up to the Gujarat assembly elections last year, the AAP ran a high-decibel campaign but could win only five seats in the 182-member House. The BJP won a record 156 seats. Kejriwal had made big promises (to voters) in Gujarat as well, but I think his party lost deposits on 90 per cent of the seats there. (For AAP) there will be a repetition of their Gujarat poll situation in Madhya Pradesh, Vijayvargiya told reporters late on Monday night. The BJP leader also hit out at Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, who recently alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to create communal riots in MP like Haryana's Nuh. Vijayvargi

AAP protests at Dwarka Expressway over irregularities flagged by CAG report

The AAP on Wednesday protested at the under-construction Dwarka Expressway here after the Comptroller Auditor General of India reportedly flagged the huge cost escalation in the construction of the expressway. Several party leaders and workers, including chief national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar and Reena Gupta, gathered near the Dwarka Expressway Highway, alleging the project to be a "scam". This is such a big scam that the road, for which an approval of Rs 18 crore per km was given, was built at a cost of Rs 251 crore, Kakkar told PTI. According to media reports, the CAG audit report on the implementation of Phase-I of the 'Bharatmala Pariyojana' highway projects flagged how the National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) decision to go for an elevated carriageway on the Haryana portion of the Dwarka Expressway pushed up the construction cost to Rs 251 crore per kilometer from Rs 18.2 crore per kilometer. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had alleged that t

AAP's Raghav Chadha changes X bio to 'Suspended Member of Parliament'

AAP leader Raghav Chadha on Saturday changed his bio on X, earlier known as Twitter, to "Suspended Member of Parliament". This comes a day after Chadha was suspended from Rajya Sabha for "gross violation of rules, misconduct, defiant attitude and contemptuous conduct", pending a report by the privileges committee. His suspension on Friday followed a motion moved by Leader of the House Piyush Goyal who sought action against the AAP leader for including names of some members of the Upper House without their consent in a proposed select committee for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. In a statement issued on Friday night, Chadha said, "My suspension serves as a stark message from the BJP to today's youth: If you dare to ask questions, we will crush your voice. I was suspended for asking tough questions that left the BJP, the world's largest party, without answers through my speech in Parliament on Delhi Service Bill." "My crime was exposing

"The entire opposition unitedly opposed the unconstitutional bill yesterday. We are fighting the battle in Parliament and the court. The people of Delhi will give them (BJP) a befitting reply in the next elections," Kakkar told PTI. Three prominent AAP leaders, many workers in Jammu resign from party

Three AAP leaders, including a District Development Council (DDC) member, along with many workers here resigned from the party. DDC member Taranjit Singh Tony, Yash Pal Kundal and the AAP's Jammu women wing president Namrata Sharma wrote separately to Kejriwal informing him about their decision to quit the party. "Eight months have passed but the party office in Jammu has not opened even once. We feel sidelined in the party and thus decided to say goodbye to it after making several failed attempts to reach out to the leadership," Tony told reporters here. He said they joined the AAP in Delhi last year after being influenced by its programmes and manifesto, besides seeing its rule in Delhi and Punjab. "After the change of leadership in Jammu and Kashmir, the party has lost its track," Tony said. He termed Kejriwal a "competent leader" but claimed that those calling the shots in Jammu have lost track of the situation in the Union Territory and "are not doing any favour to the ...

No need to hold overnight protest: Kharge advises AAP's Sanjay Singh

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday urged suspended AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh not to sit on protest overnight and end it every day when Parliament's proceedings conclude. He told Singh that the protest sit-in should be held when the day's proceedings begin and end when both Houses adjourn for the day. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been witnessing disruptions every day since the Monsoon session began on July 20. Singh readily agreed to Kharge's suggestion and said he will follow what the leader of the opposition bloc says. However, he is yet to formally announce his party's decision on the suggestion made by the Congress veteran. Kharge along with other Congress members and those of other opposition parties had come to join Singh's protest when he gave his suggestion. Singh has been protesting in the Parliament premises since his suspension Monday from Rajya Sabha for "unruly behaviour" for the entire session which ends on August 11.

38 party NDA, brought to you by ED: AAP's Raghav Chadha takes swipe at BJP

Ahead of the National Democratic Alliance meeting here, the Aam Aadmi Party took potshots at the BJP on Tuesday, alleging that the ruling party's coalition partners have been brought together by the Enforcement Directorate. BJP president J P Nadda on Monday had said that 38 parties have confirmed their participation in the meeting of the NDA and slammed opposition leaders' unity efforts as a "selfish" exercise to protect themselves from action in cases of corruption worth over Rs 20 lakh crore. The NDA meeting is scheduled to be held later in the day. Taking a swipe at the NDA, AAP Rajya Sabha member and national spokesperson Raghav Chadha tweeted, "Thirty-eight party NDA. Brought to you by ED."
