Slamming AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal over his remarks that "poison" is being mixed in the Yamuna, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that fearing their defeat in the Delhi polls, "AAP-da people" have turned desperate. Addressing a public meeting in Kartar Nagar here in the run-up to the February 5 assembly polls, he also likened AAP leaders to serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who gained notoriety for duping people. "Those who built 'sheesh mahal' and those who looted public money worth thousands of crores of rupees can never think of the welfare of the poor. That is why they are spreading lies in Delhi. These AAP-da people speak lies with such innocence that people get trapped," Modi said. "You may have heard of Charles Sobhraj. He was a known thug, but he was such an expert at duping people with innocence that every time people would get duped by him. That is why one has to remain cautious of such people," he said. Delhi has made it clear that now excuses, fake promises

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena wrote to Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday alleging that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal's accusations that "poison" is being mixed in the Yamuna water and there is an "attempt of genocide" in the national capital are highly objectionable and unfortunate, and amount to endangering national security. AAP later hit back sharply, saying the lieutenant governor (LG) needs to choose between public welfare and his "political masters". Citing media reports and a report by the Delhi chief secretary, Saxena said Kejriwal's allegations against the BJP-led Haryana government of poisoning the Yamuna river and attempting a "genocide" in Delhi are "highly objectionable, unfortunate and undesirable". "Making false, misleading, non-factual accusations of poisoning and genocide over a sensitive issue like drinking water and attempting to incite the public against another state government is not only a threat to the states involved, but also to national peace and ...
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday accused Arvind Kejriwal of falsely alleging that the Haryana government mixed poison in the Yamuna and dared the AAP supremo to make public the DJB report that he cited to level the charge on the BJP-ruled state. In response, the AAP said the Delhi Jal Board "confirmed" that charges levelled by Kejriwal are true, and challenged the BJP to get the ammonia level in the river checked by a joint team of engineers from Haryana and Delhi with an Election Commission oversight. Addressing a public meeting in the Kalkaji constituency, Shah also dared Kejriwal to tell the people of Delhi the name of the poison that he claimed was mixed in the river. According to Kejriwal he saved the people of Delhi by stopping the "poisonous" Yamuna water from entering Delhi, but he must show the official order issued in this regard, the home minister said. "Kejriwal ji, winning and losing are part of the election process. Making an innocent face, you accused the ...

Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha will campaign for the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi ahead of the February 5 Assembly polls, party sources said on Tuesday. According to a highly placed source, Sinha, the TMC MP from Asansol, will canvass for the AAP in at least three constituencies on February 1 and 2. These include former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's New Delhi constituency, Chief Minister Atishi's Kalkaji constituency, and Manish Sisodia's Jangpura constituency. The TMC believes that the actor-turned-politician, who hails from Bihar, could mobilise Delhi's 'Purvanchali' voters, a term referring to migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The Purvanchalis are an influential voter base in the city. The source added that "one or two more" TMC leaders may join the campaigning in Delhi. The TMC had extended support to the AAP for the Delhi polls, where the BJP and the Congress are also in the fray making it a triangular contest. The TMC and the AAP are part of the INDIA bloc which
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday rubbished Delhi AAP's claim that the ruling BJP in the state is "intentionally" draining industrial waste into the Yamuna that supplies water to the national capital. Saini also hit out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying it has become his habit to level baseless allegations and blame others. Saini's remarks came after the AAP on Monday accused the BJP in Haryana of "intentionally" draining industrial waste into the Yamuna, with Kejriwal alleging that it is trying to kill people by mixing "poison" in the river. Kejriwal should immediately apologise to the people of Haryana and Delhi, "otherwise we will file a defamation suit against him", Saini said. "Kejriwal has a habit of levelling baseless allegations and then run away. 'Ek kahawat hai -- thukoo aur bagho (There is a saying, first spit and then run away)," Saini told reporters here. A statement issued by the Haryan
Frustration and fear of defeat in the upcoming Delhi polls has made AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal "hell-bent on scaring" people by claiming Haryana was mixing poison in their drinking water, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said on Monday. He was reacting to Kejriwal's allegations that the BJP-led Haryana government was "mixing poison" into the Yamuna, which could kill the people of Delhi. "Often we have seen villains in films spreading fear of well water being poisonous and we have seen Kejriwal doing the same to get a few votes today," Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva charged. People know that the dirty water they are being supplied is the result of the AAP government "ruining" the water treatment plants of Delhi Jal Board, he said. "The frustration and fear of defeat has made Kejriwal so helpless that he has become hell-bent on scaring and intimidating the people of Delhi," the Delhi BJP chief said. He said that Haryana supplies water to Delhi as per the standard parame

The former chief minister addressed public meetings at Palam, Matiala and Bijwasan. During his meetings, he talked about his party's governance model, and responded to questions and criticism about the welfare schemes including free electricity, water, education and healthcare. "They ask where the money will come from. I am a Baniya. I know how to manage resources. You do not need to worry. I know the maths and I will arrange it (the money)," he told the 'Jan Sabha' in the Palam constituency. He contrasted his party's approach with that of the BJP. "The AAP is the party for common people, whereas the BJP is a party for rich people," he claimed. The AAP has fielded Joginder Solanki from Palam against the BJP's Kuldeep Solanki and Congress' Mange Ram ...

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday accused the BJP of resorting to unfair tactics out of desperation, as she claimed that a "historic loss" awaits the saffron party in the upcoming Assembly polls in the capital. At a press conference here, Atishi alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is deliberately disrupting Delhi's water supply in a bid to sway the public opinion in its favour. "The BJP is heading towards a historic loss in the national capital. In its bewilderment, it is resorting to tactics, such as stopping the water supply. Haryana is intentionally draining industrial waste into the Yamuna to harm the people of Delhi and influence the election outcome unfairly," she said. The chief minister highlighted that the presence of ammonia in the Yamuna water has skyrocketed to 7.2 ppm, an unprecedented level. She claimed that this contamination has caused disruptions in the operation of water treatment plants across Delhi, further exacerbating the crisis. Echoing similar

Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on sunday accused the BJP of obstructing development work in the city during his over 10-year tenure in Delhi, turning a "living hell" of the constituencies it won. He made the remark at a janasabha in Jangpura constituency while canvassing for party candidate Manish Sisodia for the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5. "Last time, BJP won eight assembly constituencies. They did not let any work happen in their areas. All eight of them made their assembly a living hell. You people should not make such a mistake even by mistake," Kejriwal said. He appealed to voters to send Sisodia to the assembly, saying he and his former deputy together made government schools excellent for the better future of their children. "Now BJP people are saying that if their government is formed, they will close all the government schools here too. It is up to you to choose AAP, which builds government schools, or BJP, which closes them," the
BJP leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani addressed a public meeting in Okhla on Sunday, urging people to vote for the party's candidate Manish Chaudhary in the February 5 elections. Addressing a large gathering, Irani called on the people to press the 'lotus' symbol on the ballot on February 5. Irani, who is also scheduled to address a public meeting in Rohini later, criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for "failing to deliver' on key promises made to the residents of Delhi. She accused AAP of not providing basic services, such as clean drinking water and quality healthcare, despite these being central to their election promises. "AAP had promised the people of Delhi clean water and efficient healthcare services, but these promises remain unfulfilled," said Irani, adding, "The people of Delhi deserve better, and it is time to make a change." During her speech, Irani outlined the BJP's guarantees for the citizens of Delhi, highlighting key welfare measures that
