DGCA imposes Rs 30 lakh penalty on Air India for regulatory norms violation

Aviation safety regulator DGCA has imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Tata Group-owned Air India for allegedly allowing one of its pilots to operate a flight without complying with certain regulatory requirements. The DGCA in order of January 29 also said that it has found "recurrent rostering issues...," about the airline. The order to slap penalty came after the response of a show-cause notice to Air India's head of operations and head of rostering, among other executives, on December 13, 2024 was found "unsatisfactory." The pilot "operated a flight on 7th July despite not having the mandatory recency requirement of 3 take off and landings, leading to violation of para 3 of civil aviation requirement," the regulator said in its order. Air India did not respond to a PTI query on this issue. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in its order also said that "the (rostering) controllers (at Air India) overlooked the multiple spurious alerts reflecting on CAE window, as pe

Air India flight to Mumbai mistakenly sends out hijack alert, probe ordered

A Mumbai-bound Air India flight inadvertently sent out a hijack signal soon after taking off from the national capital this week, sending security agencies into a tizzy and the incident is now under investigation, according to sources. Security protocols were put in place and after landing at the Mumbai airport, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay. Passengers disembarked safely. The sources aware of the development said the flight AI 2957 from Delhi to Mumbai sent out the squawk code '7500', which is used to alert about hijack on January 27. Air India to restart Delhi-Tel Aviv route from Mar 2 with 5 flights a week

Air India will resume direct flights to Tel Aviv from March 2, after suspending the services in August last year amid tensions in the Middle East. Five weekly flights will be operated from the national capital to Tel Aviv in Israel, the airline said in a release on Wednesday. The airline will deploy its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft having 18 flat beds in Business Class and 238 seats in Economy Class on the route. As ceasefire holds up, Air India to start Tel Aviv-Delhi flights from Mar 2

With ceasefire holding up in the north and south of Israel, several major international airlines, including Air India, have announced plans to resume flights to Israel expanding connectivity to the war-torn region. "It's official now. We are resuming flights from March 2, 2025, a representative for Air India in Israel told PTI. Several Indians staying in Israel felt a sigh of relief as the Indian carrier's website opened bookings on the said route. Travelling to Israel had become challenging with most of the major international airlines cancelling their operations to the Jewish state in view of the war in the north against Hezbollah and in the south against Hamas in Gaza, since October 23, 2023 when the Palestinian Islamic group carried out a brutal attack on the Jewish state. Air France announced that it will resume daily flights on the Paris-Tel Aviv route starting Saturday this week. The carrier also plans to increase its daily flight frequency in the coming months. A-I staff to carry out aircraft maintenance at domestic stations by Apr

Air India aims to make line maintenance works of aircraft in-house at its 55 domestic stations by April, the airline's CEO Campbell Wilson said on Friday. Line maintenance works of the planes are carried at 55 domestic stations (airports) and the airline has been working on doing the activities in-house amid expanding fleet. In a message to the employees, Wilson said the airline is making good progress on taking control of its line maintenance, with 42 of its 55 domestic stations now handled directly by Air India staff. "This gives much greater control on quality and timeliness and enables us to conduct a wider range of maintenance tasks in-house, including lighter checks during extended transits and overnight stops," Wilson, who is the CEO and MD of the Tata Group-owned airline, said. He also said that in-housing of the remaining 13 stations is on track to be completed by April. Loss-making Air India has embarked on an ambitious transformation plan. Last year, Air India merged .
