International ODI and T20 career
In January 2018, Carey, batting for the Adelaide Strikers, hit his first Big Bash century when he opened the batting against the Hobart Hurricanes at his home ground, the Adelaide Oval. Just two days later, he was selected for Australia's One Day International squad. Later the same month, he made his T20I debut for Australia against New Zealand on 3 February 2018. On 8 May 2018 he was named vice-captain of the Australia T20 team. In April 2019, he was named in Australia's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
