J-K bills to give justice to those deprived of rights for 70 years: Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir brought by the government will give justice to those deprived of their rights for the last 70 years and asserted that reservation to the displaced people will give them a voice in the legislature. Replying to a debate on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, Shah said that had terrorism been tackled at the beginning without considering vote-bank politics, Kashmiri Pandits would not have had to leave Kashmir Valley. He said one of the bills seeks to give representation in the assembly to those who had to leave Kashmir due to terrorism. He said the bills were aimed at providing justice to the people who were deprived for the last 70 years. Shah also lashed out at the Congress for talking about backward classes, saying that if any party has opposed backward classes and come in the way of their growth, it is the Congress. He said

'One flag, one PM, one constitution' not a political slogan: Shah in LS

Union Home Minister Amit Shah Tuesday asserted that the concept of "one flag, one prime minister, one constitution" was not a political slogan and the BJP firmly believes in the principle and finally implemented it with regard to Jammu and Kashmir. Responding to a remark by TMC's Saugata Roy in the Lok Sabha that "ek nishan, ek pradhan, ek samvidhan (one flag, one head, one constitution)" was a "political slogan", Shah wondered as to how can a country have two prime ministers, two constitutions and two flags. He said Roy's remarks were "objectionable". While responding to a remark from the opposition benches, Shah said, "Whosoever did it was wrong. Narendra Modi has corrected it. Your approval or disagreement does not matter. The entire country wanted it." This comment was made in an apparent reference to the abrogation of provisions of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He went on to state that "one symbol, one head, one constitution" was not an election slogan. "We had been saying

Assembly poll results prove days of appeasement, caste politics over: Shah

As the BJP is set to form governments in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the results have proved that the days of appeasement and caste politics are over and that 'new India' votes on politics of performance. In a series of tweets, he said the BJP's massive victory is the public's seal of approval on the welfare policies and good governance of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh showed that the BJP will form the government. While in Madhya Pradesh, the party retained power, in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, it has overthrown the Congress. In Telangana, the Congress is set to form the government defeating the Bharath Rashtra Samithi. "There is only one person in the hearts of the people, that is Modi. Citizens, not govt, can make India developed nation, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said only citizens and not the state or Central governments can turn India into a developed and self-reliant country. He was speaking at a function organised in Chanduvav village near Veraval town in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district to welcome 'Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Yatra', a countrywide initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month to bring government schemes at the doorstep of needy citizens. "The government, be it state or Central, cannot make India a developed country. Only 130 crore citizens, not anyone else, can turn India into a developed and self-reliant country," said Shah. The Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Yatra is an attempt to uplift the lives of 70 crore needy citizens, Shah said, and urged officials to aim for 100 per cent saturation of all schemes so that no person is left behind. According to Shah, there were two 'Bharats' that existed before 2014 - one where people had everything and another where 70 crore people wer

PM's visit to Manipur called for as part of 'efforts' for peace in NE: Cong

The Congress on Wednesday took a swipe at the Centre over Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks hailing the Narendra Modi government's "relentless efforts to establish permanent peace in the Northeast", saying a visit by the prime minister to Manipur which has seen so much turmoil is called for as part of these "so-called efforts". No one can stop CAA implementation, says Amit Shah at Kolkata rally

Home Minister Amit Shah asserted on Wednesday that the Central government will implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and no one can stop it. Addressing a big rally here to launch the party's Lok Sabha campaign, Shah launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the issues of appeasement, infiltration, corruption and political violence and urged people to throw out her government and elect the BJP in the next assembly polls. Lauding the turnout at the rally, he said this indicates the people's mood and claimed that the BJP will come to power with two-third majority in the state in 2026. The BJP's performance in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls will create the foundation of its win in the assembly polls, he said. Turning to the contentious CAA issue, he said Banerjee has been opposing it but no one can stop its implementation, which has been in a limbo as the central government is yet to frame its rules amid the opposition's strong stand against the ...

Amit Shah's rally expected to set tone for BJP's LS campaign in Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a mega rally here on Wednesday and is likely to lay the groundwork for the BJP's upcoming campaign in West Bengal for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Shah will embark on a whirlwind tour of West Bengal this afternoon with BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar confirming that the union home minister will be "leaving the state this evening after the rally". "Amit Shah ji is likely to set the tone for next year's Lok Sabha polls in Bengal," Majumdar had said on Tuesday, echoing sentiments expressed during a rally in April when Shah set a target of winning more than 35 seats from the state. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, the BJP secured 18, out of the 42 constituencies, in West Bengal. However, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) downplayed the significance of Shah's rally, asserting that it would "not yield positive results" for the saffron party. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, "The BJP launched a mega campaign during the 2021 assemb

Defamation case: Sultanpur court summons Rahul over remarks on Amit Shah

An MP-MLA court has summoned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a 2018 defamation case over alleged "objectionable" comments he made against Union minister Amit Shah, the petitioner's counsel said. During a hearing on the case on Monday, MP/MLA court judge Yogesh Yadav summoned Gandhi on December 16, advocate Santosh Pandey said. The defamation case was filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018 against the Congress leader for allegedly making "objectionable" comments against Shah at a press conference in Bengaluru. The complainant had referred to Gandhi's comment that the BJP which claims to believe in honest and clean politics has a party president who is an "accused" in a murder case. Shah was the BJP president when Gandhi made the remark. About four years before Gandhi's remark, a special CBI court in Mumbai had discharged Shah in a 2005 fake encounter case when Shah was a minister of state for home in Gujarat.
