An average of over 77,000 litres of liquor has been seized per month till August 2025 in dry Bihar, a 16 per cent increase over the seizure during the same period last year, police said on Monday. The average per-month seizure was 67,000 litres during the first eight months of the previous year, a senior officer said. "The prohibition division of the Bihar Police seized 77,540 litres of liquor, on average, per month this year," he said. Talking to reporters here, Bihar Police's Prohibition Division Additional Director General (ADG) Amit Kumar Jain attributed the increase in the liquor seizure to "enhanced surveillance and stricter enforcement of prohibition laws in the state". "The per-month seizure in 2025 is 16 per cent more than the previous year. A complaint was lodged at a police station in Patna seeking an investigation into "issuance of two voter ID cards" in favour of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, an officer said. The development took place a day after the Election Commission asked Yadav to hand over for investigation a voter ID card that he claimed to be in possession of despite having been not issued officially. The EC said the opposition leader's EPIC card number was not changed as alleged by him. At least five people have been arrested from New Town near Kolkata in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra in a Patna hospital, police said on Saturday. However, the prime suspects, who were allegedly hiding in the city managed to flee, prompting police to launch a renewed search operation, a senior officer claimed. The five arrested, who were apprehended from a housing complex in the satellite township of the metropolis following raids conducted jointly by the Bihar Police and the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) in the early hours of Saturday, were "providing logistics" to the five main accused who killed Mishra, an officer said. According to CCTV camera footage, the prime suspects escaped the city in a white vehicle, which was spotted passing through Basanti Highway near here, the officer said. Five policemen were on Saturday suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra in a Patna hospital, a senior officer said. The suspended personnel include a sub-inspector and two ASIs. They have been suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duty in connection with the murder of the convict inside a top private hospital on Thursday. The personnel were posted at Shastri Nagar Police Station, Patna (Central) SP Diksha told PTI. Five people were killed and at least 18 others injured when a pick-up van overturned following a tyre burst in Bihar's Saran district on Monday, police said. The accident happened near Nayagaon locality of the district, the police said. The police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased and injured.
