Expressing concern over the rising level of air pollution in the state, the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) said on Tuesday that it will soon publish an action plan to tackle the menace. Talking to reporters, BSPCB chairman Ashok Kumar Ghosh said consistent efforts are needed for a few years to see visible improvement in the air quality of the state. "We are coordinating with different departments, including road and building construction, agriculture, environment and urban development, for reducing air pollution levels in the state. The rising levels of air pollution in several cities of the state are a matter of serious concern," he said. "We need to put in consistent efforts for a couple of years to see visible improvement in air quality. The BSPCB will soon come out with its own action plan for all stakeholders to curb air pollution in the state," he added. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced that his government will construct a memorial of Magadha king Jarasandha in the ancient town of Rajgir in Nalanda district. He alleged that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was not properly maintaining the protected site of 'Jarasandha ka akhara' (battleground of Jarasandha). Speaking at the inauguration of the Ganga Water Supply Scheme (GWSS) in Rajgir, he said, "The state government has decided to construct a memorial of Jarasandha on its own land in Rajgir town. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated an ambitious scheme in Nalanda district, under which flood waters will be treated for supply to households in the southern part of the state. Kumar, following the inauguration of Ganga Water Supply Scheme (GWSS) in Rajgir, said the project will facilitate supply of 135 litres of treated Ganga water every day for each person in a household. The scheme, estimated to cost over Rs 4,000 crore, will also be dedicated to the people of Gaya and Bodh Gaya on Monday. The Supreme Court on Monday rapped the Bihar government for not taking action against fake pharmacists and doctors in the state, saying the court cannot permit it to play with the lives of people. A bench of justices MR Shah and MM Sundresh reserved its verdict on an appeal filed against a Patna High Court order by pharmacist Mukesh Kumar seeking action against fake pharmacists practicing in the state. The high court on December 9, 2019, had asked Kumar to give the names of fake practitioners so that necessary action could be taken against them. "It's a serious issue. A winged visitor, a rare white-rumped vulture, from Nepal which went missing some ten months ago, was found by Bihar's bird ringing station officials at Darbhanga after it went off the radar despite being radio tagged. The bird, belonging to a critically endangered species, was last sighted in the Himalayan nation's Tanahun district, and was found in a weakened condition as it was starving for want of food, according to officials. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said the Bihar government will soon increase the representation of women in the state police force to 35 per cent. Kumar said at present the representation of women in Bihar Police is around 27-28 per cent. "The representation of women in state police is almost 28 per cent in Bihar.
