Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Friday accused the Congress government of targeting Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar just to divert public attention from the MUDA 'scam'. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao claimed on Wednesday that Savarkar used to eat meat and was not against cow slaughter. In an online post, Vijayendra said: "This is a betrayal of our national heroes! The Congress government, driven by its greed for power, has shamefully targeted Veer Savarkar - a patriot who dedicated his life to India's freedom - just to divert public attention from their corruption in the #MUDAScam. This desperate ploy to mislead the public is unacceptable." He further said that the BJP will fight until the "corrupt leaders" of Congress are held accountable. "It's not just an attack on Savarkar, but an insult to every Indian who values our nation's sacrifices. As Vir Savarkar himself said, 'Independence is never given, it is always taken.' No lies or distractions w

Choose between development, destruction: Rajnath at Haryana rally

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Wednesday accused the Congress of not fulfilling its poll promises as he asked the people of Haryana not to be misled by the opposition and asserted the upcoming state election was about choosing between "development and destruction." Asserting the BJP fulfils its promises made to the people, he said the Centre provided Rs 78,000 crore for Haryana's development while Rs 21,564 crore was given to the state when the grand old party was in power. The Congress had given Rs 1,158 crore to farmers while the BJP gave Rs 13,276 crore in 10 years, Singh said at a public meeting in Haryana's Yamunanagar. Under the BJP's rule in the last 10 years, the youths in Haryana were given jobs only based on merit, he said, adding, "I can assure you that the youths will continue to get jobs without 'kharchi-parchi' (corruption and favouritism) when BJP returns to power." "The Congress made several promises. Had they implemented them even partially during their 50-55 years

Extreme hypocrisy: BJP on Cong's criticism of activist Wangchuk's detention

The BJP on Tuesday described the Congress' condemnation of the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and several other Ladakhis as "hypocrisy in extreme". Wangchuk and more than 100 people from Ladakh who had marched to Delhi demanding that the union territory be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution were detained at the capital's border on Monday for violating prohibitory orders and taken to different police stations. The Congress on Tuesday slammed the Centre over the detention of Wangchuk and others with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi terming it "unacceptable" and saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to listen to Ladakh's voice. Asked about the Congress' reaction, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar said, "I don't know the facts. I will have to check the facts." Can give up ministerial post for principles like my father did, says Chirag

Union minister Chirag Paswan has caused a flutter by stating he would choose to give up his ministerial berth instead of a compromise on his principles, in keeping with the precedent set by his late father Ram Vilas Paswan. Paswan, who heads Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), made the remark at a function of the party's SC/ST cell here on Monday evening, even as he maintained that he "will be in the NDA till Narendra Modi is my Prime Minister". Responding to questions from journalists about his cryptic remark in his speech, "I will not hesitate to renounce (laat maar denge) my ministerial berth like my father did", the young leader claimed he was speaking about the Congress-led UPA. "My father was a minister in the UPA government too. And too many things took place back then which were detrimental to the interests of Dalits. Even pictures of Baba Saheb Ambedkar were not put up at public events. So we parted ways," said Paswan, who is understood to have played an instrumental role in .
