BJP attacking country's composite culture, dividing society: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the BJP of attacking the country's composite culture and dividing the society. Addressing the SP minority wing executive meeting at the party headquarters here, Yadav said the BJP will face a rout in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "In the 2022 state elections, the BJP conspired and prevented the SP from coming to power. But this time (2024 general elections), the SP will ensure that the BJP faces a rout. The BJP government at the Centre will be ousted from power," Yadav said. "Apart from attacking the composite culture of the country, it (BJP) has worked to divide the society," he added. Yadav also accused the BJP of defaming the Samajwadi Party and its leadership and alleged that the ruling party was "full of loot and corruption". "The pride of the BJP will be shattered by the might of the Samajwadi Party. The SP, INDIA alliance and the PDA (pichhde, Dalits and alpsankhyak) together will be successful in remo

Govt's submission to SC on plea challenging caste survey exposes BJP: JD(U)

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) on Monday alleged that BJP's "anti-poor, anti-OBC, anti-reservations" stance stood "exposed" with the Centre's submission before the Supreme Court on a petition challenging the state's caste survey. JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan', while citing the submission of Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, also pointed out that "former Attorney General" had appeared as the petitioners' counsel before the Apex Court. "The BJP seeks to project a pro-OBC face for electoral gains. Its boast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being an ati pichhra (extremely backward class) is a part of this strategy. But its character has been anti-poor, anti-OBC and anti-reservations", Lalan said. "The BJP has always claimed that it is in support of the caste survey, which as the chief minister says, would benefit not just the OBCs but also all sections of the society, including the economically weaker sections. But it has tried to put hurdles befor

K'taka to set up committee to formulate education policy after scraping NEP

The Karnataka government on Monday decided to set up a committee to formulate education policy for the state -- while continuing the old education system for now -- as it has already made its view public that it will scrap the National Education Policy (NEP) mooted by the BJP-led union government. The previous BJP government in Karnataka had introduced the new NEP in Karnataka but with the Congress government taking over, it decided to do away with the policy. On Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah chaired a meeting on the subject with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar, Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, well-known author Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa and senior government officials present. Later a statement was issued by the CMO denouncing the NEP. Since it is a state subject, the central government cannot formulate education policy. The National Education Policy has been formulated without taking the state governments into .

HC seeks Maha govt response on Swamy's PIL against Pandharpur Temples Act

The Bombay High Court on Monday sought the Maharashtra government's reply on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy challenging the Pandharpur Temples Act. In the petition filed in February this year, Swamy claimed the Maharashtra government had taken over the administration of the Pandharpur town's temples in an arbitrary manner. A division bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Arif S Doctor on Monday directed the government to file its affidavit and posted the matter for hearing on September 13. As per the plea, the state government through the Pandharpur Temples Act, 1973, had abolished all hereditary rights and privileges of ministrants and priestly classes for the governance and administration of the temples of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini in Pandharpur in the state's Solapur district. The law enabled the state government to control its administration and management of funds, the plea said. On Monday, another person Bheemach

Removed 'Bimaru' tag, put it on development path: Shah on MP BJP govt

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday released the Madhya Pradesh government's 'report card' from 2003-2023 and said the BJP government in these years successfully removed the BIMARU (laggard) category tag from the state, which, according to him, was a legacy of the Congress regime. He said the people of the state took a historic decision in 2003 by removing the government of "Mr Bantadhar", apparently referring to senior Congress leader and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh. The BJP government laid the foundation of making the state developed and self-reliant in the last 20 years, he said. Shah released the government's 'report card' of 20 years at a function in the Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, MP BJP president VD Sharma and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra. He also asked the opposition Congress to give a report card of its nearly five-decade rule in the state. The assembly elections in MP are due this year-end.
