Cong dismisses Rijiju's govt 'did not ask for names for delegations' remark

The Congress on Monday dismissed as an "absolute lie" Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's reported assertion that that the government did not ask for names for the all-party diplomatic delegations going abroad, and said it was "cheap politics" to not get the names it selected cleared with the opposition party. Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said the same PM who had abused the Congress publicly in countries such as Australia, the US, Qatar, South Korea and China, is taking the help of the opposition party in these delegations. "Why didn't the prime minister pick up the phone and speak to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi? Why didn't he have the courtesy to do that? The fact is that our narrative has been punctured and continues to get punctured because of the politics of polarisation in the country," Ramesh told PTI here. On Saturday, the Congress sa

BJP to hold training camp for MP leaders to boost public communication

The BJP will organise a training camp for its leaders in Bhopal to enhance their communication skills and avoid goof-ups in public, a move the party sought to delink from controversies surrounding two ministers over their remarks on Col Sophia Qureshi and the armed forces. The state BJP claimed the training initiative was pre-planned and a routine intra-party affair. "It has nothing to do with recent statements of BJP leaders. Such events are held routinely, and nothing more should be read into it," MP BJP spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi told PTI. The schedule of the training camp, which will be organised in June, will be out shortly, he said. The BJP faced criticism after state Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah purportedly termed Colonel Sofia Quereshi, the face of media briefings on Operation Sindoor, a 'sister of terrorists', during his public speech. The controversial remarks not only invited wide-scale condemnation from various sections of society and the Opposition, but also le

The minister also announced that the first registry of properties falling under the Lal Dora category will be completely free of cost. The move is expected to resolve long-pending property disputes and enable people to obtain legal ownership documents without financial burden. The minister made the remarks during a visit to Daulatpur village in southwest Delhi, said a statement by Verma's office. "The long-awaited Master Plan 2041 is in its final stages and will be implemented very soon. With the government nominating him to lead a diplomatic outreach delegation after Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said that when national interest is involved and his services are required, he will not be found wanting. Tharoor also said he is honoured by the invitation of the government to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals to present the nation's point of view on recent events. His remarks came after the government announced that it will send seven all-party delegations to key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council, later this month to convey India's message of zero tolerance against terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. "I am honoured by the invitation of the government of India to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals, to present our nation's point of view on recent events," Tharoor said on X. 'Op Sindoor still on': BJP urges Oppn not to raise 'unwanted' questions

Slamming the Congress and other opposition parties, the BJP on Wednesday asserted that Operation Sindoor is still going on and it has been stopped only temporarily, asking them to refrain from raising "unnecessary and unwanted" questions on the issue. Talking to reporters, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the government has not used the word "ceasefire" anywhere and clearly stated that the solution to the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) can be resolved through bilateral talk between India and Pakistan. The government believes that there is no possibility of any mediation on this issue, he said. "Hence, they should refrain from making unnecessary and unwarranted comments on this issue as Operation Sindoor is still not over," he said. He emphasised that on the one hand, the Congress and other opposition parties say they are with the government on the issue but this does not reflect in their behaviour. They say something and do something else which raises ...

Mayawati condemns remarks on Col Qureshi, Cong wants MP minister's sacking

BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday condemned the purported objectionable remarks made by Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah against Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, terming them "deeply saddening and shameful." The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister demanded strict action to prevent communal disharmony and uphold the dignity of India's armed forces. In a strongly worded post on X, Mayawati said, "First the Foreign Secretary and then a woman officer of the Army have been subjected to disgusting, indecent and inappropriate remarks. This is actually an attempt to destroy the positive atmosphere of enthusiasm and pride prevailing across the country over the success of 'Operation Sindoor' carried out by the Indian Army against Pakistan. This is extremely painful and shameful." Insult to army: Cong slams BJP over MP minister's remarks on Col Qureshi

The Congress on Tuesday slammed the BJP over its leader and Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah's purported objectionable remarks on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who was a prominent face during media briefings on Operation Sindoor, and demanded his sacking. The Congress shared the video in which Shah is purportedly heard making objectionable remarks, saying, "'Jinhone humari betiyon ke sindoor ujade the humne unhiki behen bhej kar ke unki aisi ki taisi karwayi (those who wiped sindoor (vermilion) off our daughters' forehead... we sent their sister to teach them a lesson)'." Shah later claimed his remarks were being twisted by some people. "We respect the actions taken by the Indian forces that avenged the Pahalgam terror attack in which the vermilion was wiped off the forehead of our sisters. I don't want to say anything to those who are twisting my remarks. She (Qureshi) is a sister who has enhanced our prestige, it should not be seen in any other context. HC orders 2 YouTubers to delete 'defamatory' videos against BJP minister

The Bombay High Court has ordered deletion of six videos uploaded by two YouTubers against Maharashtra Water Resources Minister and senior BJP leader Girish Mahajan, noting that they were "prima facie defamatory". A bench of Justice Arif Doctor in its order passed on May 8 said after having watched the videos, a case for grant of interim relief has been made out. "The statements made by defendants in the videos as discerned from the transcripts are in my prima facie view per se defamatory," the HC said. The court directed the defendants to immediately take down/delete the six videos uploaded by them on YouTube. It also restrained them from uploading any more such videos or posts that would be defamatory against Mahajan. The bench posted the matter for further hearing on June 20. Mahajan had filed a defamation suit against one Anil Thatte and one more person claiming that they had made false, reckless and unsubstantiated allegations against him. In an interim application, Mahajan

BJP hails PM Narendra Modi, says India isolated Pakistan diplomatically

The BJP on Sunday asserted that India had rewritten the rules of its engagement with Pakistan under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the ruling party hit out at the Congress and alleged the Indira Gandhi-led government released more than 90,000 prisoners of war without securing any strategic advantage after the 1971 war. The remarks came after India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an agreement to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. The Congress on Sunday demanded answers from the government on if it had accepted third-party mediation on Kashmir after the US made announcements on behalf of India and Pakistan, pressing for convening an immediate session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and the latest developments on the cross-border firing. Asserting that it was time to remember Indira Gandhi's leadership, the Congress also cited her actions in 1971 that led

'Is it time for politics': Cong slams BJP over criticism of terror response

The Congress slammed the BJP on Saturday for accusing the previous UPA government of acting with "passivity" in responding to terror attacks and said the ruling party and the government must clarify whether it is time to play politics instead of giving a message of unity. The opposition party's criticism came after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit out at the previous UPA government's approach in dealing with Pakistan. "The message to the enemies is loud and clear. Don't mess with us! Unlike the UPA regime's passivity, New India has no patience for futile peace talks," the BJP said in a post on X and shared a video montage to claim that while talks followed terror attacks during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule, this has changed under the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tagging the post on the microblogging platform, Congress's media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said, "So do we have to do politics now? Is it time to do ..

Cong acting like 'fifth column' against Indian armed forces, alleges BJP

The BJP on Monday alleged that the Congress and its allies have become a "fifth column" working to lower the morale of armed forces after the Uttar Pradesh Congress president took a 'toy Rafale' jibe at the government over its response to the Pahalgam terror attack. BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi sought to draw a parallel between Pakistani army and leaders of INDIA bloc, saying the former is bombarding the Indian armed forces from across the border by violating the ceasefire while opposition leaders are targeting them with their comments from within. The ruling party's fresh attack on opposition parties, especially the Congress, came following Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajai Rai's taunting remarks for the alleged lack of action by the government against terrorists. Rai showed a toy plane depicting Rafale fighter aircraft with lemon and chillies hanging from it and targeted the government for not putting them to use. Trivedi noted that it is in a series of comment
